[December 31st, 2020] 2020 — A Year in Review — 2020 has proven to be a year that will never be forgotten. It’s been a scary year that has tested the strength of our institutions to deal with a highly infectious global pandemic, but it has also been a year of human ingenuity, flexibility, and resiliency in the face of adversity. When faced with a global pandemic people came together and businesses adapted to the reality of in-person interaction in “COVID times.” The transition hasn’t been painless, and we’ve seen some monumental security breaches this year, but it’s not all doom and gloom. [January 27th, 2021] Business Information Security Officer: The Next Big Innovation in Cybersecurity Strategy — Cybersecurity is a field of constant innovation, both on the business and the technical side. As we’ve written about in a previous blog post, businesses frequently struggle to communicate cyber risk to their Board of Directors. Effectively evaluating levels of risk, determining the appropriate level of response, and communicating that to the board without reducing cybersecurity to a simple cost of doing business is incredibly difficult. Enter: The Business Information Security Officer (BISO). Large companies such as Charles Schwab, Citibank, and Deloitte have implemented the BISO role into their organizational structure to act as a go-between for the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and executives without the technical understanding required to make tactical cybersecurity decisions.
