As with most, December has been a busy month for TDI. It’s an end to a truly crummy year, but we have hope that 2021 will be all the better for it. [December 1st] How to Build a Successful Continuous Monitoring Program — Due to the COVID-19 pandemic many businesses have become yet more vulnerable than before to cyberattacks. Boards, CISOs, and other business executives are aware it’s not a matter of “if” but “when.” Continuous monitoring is a major trend that is part of a desire to control risk in real time. It is based in part, on SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tooling, log management for data collection and analysis, and security dashboards for visualization. [December 22nd] Cybersecurity Automation in Higher Education — Colleges and universities nationwide have had to rapidly shift their cybersecurity priorities in 2020, thanks in no small part to the global pandemic that has forced many institutions to offer remote learning capabilities. With these changes comes a dramatically increased reliance on the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of university systems that support academic and administrative operations. Given the immense challenges that educational institutions face with their need to secure reliable services for the thousands that rely on it, the ever tightening budgets brought by the pandemic, and their tendency to be targets for ransomware campaigns, it’s no surprise that universities are moving toward automating their cybersecurity programs in an imperative to do more with less. [December 31st] 2020: A Year in Review — 2020 has proven to be a year that will never be forgotten. It’s been a scary year that has tested the strength of our institutions to deal with a highly infectious global pandemic, but it has also been a year of human ingenuity, flexibility, and resiliency in the face of adversity. When faced with a global pandemic people came together and businesses adapted to the reality of in-person interaction in “COVID times.” The transition hasn’t been painless, and we’ve seen some monumental security breaches this year, but it’s not all doom and gloom.
